Inquiry ordered after SC achiever’s photo removed from Kutch University notice board

Rajkot: A complaint alleging that the photograph of a scheduled caste student who cleared a Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) exam was removed from a Kutch University notice board has been referred to the university’s SC/ST cell for inquiry and action by vice-chancellor Mohan Patel.A section of the university library is dedicated to students preparing for competitive exams. Under a longstanding practice, photographs of students who clear such exams are displayed on a notice board to recognise their achievements and encourage others.According to a representation submitted to the vice-chancellor by SC community leaders, the photograph of a scheduled caste student who recently cleared the GPSC examination was allegedly removed. The representation stated that the student had cleared three competitive exams and that his photograph was removed after he cleared the last two.The representation alleged that caste bias had motivated the action.“I got a representation stating that the student had cleared three competitive exams, but his picture was removed after he cleared the last two exams. I forwarded the complaint to our SC/ST cell for further inquiry and action,” Patel said.
