Civil Hospital security guard booked for assaulting patient’s relative

Ahmedabad: The Shahibaug police have registered an offence against a Civil Hospital security guard for allegedly assaulting a 25-year-old patient’s relative and abusing him inside the hospital premises.According to a complaint lodged on Saturday, Rahul Marwadi, a resident of Meghaninagar, said he works as a daily wager and lives with his mother. His grandfather, Madanlal, was admitted to the F-4 ward of Civil Hospital for several days, and Rahul was staying overnight at the hospital to take care of him. In his complaint, Rahul stated that on the evening of April 24, he stepped out of the ward to have tea and snacks. While speaking on the phone near the trauma ward gate, a security guard approached him and asked him to lower his voice. The argument escalated when the guard allegedly abused him and pushed him. Rahul further alleged that the guard assaulted him with a stick, striking his right shoulder and left leg. The altercation drew the attention of other people present. Rahul then informed his mother, who reached the spot soon after. After the incident, Rahul was provided treatment at the hospital’s outpatient department and later discharged. The following day, he approached the Shahibaug police along with his mother to file a complaint against the security guard. Police said a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing hurt and use of abusive language. Officials said efforts are underway to establish the accused guard’s complete identity and verify the sequence of events.
