Ahmedabad: A 24-year-old woman was allegedly abducted from her husband’s home by her parents and relatives in Mehsana on Tuesday, days after she married a Scheduled Caste homeopath against her family’s wishes. The woman’s mother-in-law alleged in her police complaint that the group hurled caste-based abuses at them while dragging the woman by her hair and later forcefully carrying her to a car before speeding away.Police have initiated legal action based on a complaint filed by the mother-in-law of victim. She and her 25-year-old husband are both homeopaths. They married in Palanpur on April 23 and had been living with his family at their home in Mehsana.Police have booked victim’s mother, father, uncle and four or five unidentified men, for abduction, criminal conspiracy, assault under BNS and under different sections of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocity) Act.According to the FIR, victim’s parents, along with her uncle and four or five unidentified men, arrived at her in-law’s house around 3.30pm on Tuesday in two cars. The victim’s husband and his father were at work, while she, her mother-in-law and her mother-in-law were at home.The visitors were initially welcomed and offered water. Woman’s father asked to meet his daughter, who was sleeping on the first floor of the house. After she was called downstairs, Woman’s mother allegedly said she was unwell and wanted to rest in a room. When the family opened the room, the accompanying men entered the house and pulled the woman away.The woman’s mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law tried to intervene, but the men allegedly dragged the woman by the hair towards the society entrance and forced her into one of the vehicles. Her mother-in-law stated that her gold chain fell off during the struggle.The FIR also alleged that the group hurled caste-based remarks, including, “How dare you marry our daughter and keep her at your house.”The complainant told police that her family belongs to a Scheduled Caste, while her daughter-in-law’s family does not belong to the SC or ST communities. She alleged that her daughter-in-law’s parents had opposed the marriage because of her son’s caste.The FIR states that woman’s parents and relatives had visited their Mehsana house three or four times after the marriage.After the woman was taken away, her mother-in-law informed her son, following which residents gathered outside the house. An emergency response team and police vehicle arrived, and the complainant and her mother-in-law went to the A Division police station, where her son and his father also arrived. They later submitted CCTV footage from the cameras installed at the house and lodged the FIR.Local activist claimed the woman was being taken towards Rajasthan and urged police to trace her quickly, expressing concern for her safety.
