Pak national who illegally returned to India and worked as chef held; fake Aadhaar under probe
19 Illegal Pakistani national

New Delhi: In the narrow lanes of Kuchha Chelan in Daryaganj, Muhammad Adnan, a Pakistani, lived unnoticed for over a year. He blended easily into the daily rush of Old Delhi as a chef in a local kitchen. But his presence was entirely illegal—beyond living in the capital without a valid passport or visa, Adnan had also procured an Aadhaar card. Police are probing how he obtained the fake document and the bigger racket behind the procurement and making of fake ID.A resident of Karachi’s Korangi area, Adnan was no stranger to cross-border travel. In Dec 2022, he and his wife Zainab had legally left India for Pakistan through the Attari-Wagah border. While Zainab later made a documented return to India through proper diplomatic and immigration channels, Adnan chose a path far more secretive.DCP (crime) Sanjeev Yadav said, “He illegally entered India last May. Bypassing heavily guarded international checkpoints, Adnan slipped through the high-altitude terrain of the India-Nepal border. Without a passport and a visa, he drifted back into the heart of the capital and lay low in rented accommodations.“Acting on a tip-off, a police team closed in on his abode and took him into custody on Aug 15.What followed was a multi-agency interrogation. Officials from the Delhi Military Intelligence Unit and special cell joined crime branch teams to scrutinise Adnan’s background, mapping his timeline, contacts, and exact motivations for returning illicitly. The joint verification confirmed: a foreign national residing in the heart of the national capital for over fourteen months without a single scrap of legal documentation. With the security vetting complete, authorities recommended his immediate deportation. Adnan has been moved to the Sewa Sadan detention centre in Lampur, where he is restricted under heavy guard as official deportation proceedings are fast-tracked to send him back.
