Lucknow: An extensive audit is expected to be carried out within the urban pockets of the state to identify the land parcels that have been encroached upon.Starting with 17 municipal corporation cities, the urban development department is contemplating initiating a thorough land survey exercise within the jurisdiction of the civic bodies to identify the land parcels that have been usurped by others in an illegal manner.Over the past three years, 35 new urban local bodies have been notified in the state, while the jurisdiction and boundaries of 62 additional civic bodies have been expanded to cover more localities. Officials believe that in cities and towns, the areas that were under gram sabhas have not been fully integrated. “A lot of areas under the administration of gram sabhas or belonged to other govt agencies but had been encroached upon, have to be taken back into possession. Similarly, nazul land also has to be demarcated and we would alert the local housing development authority about it,” said a senior officer.Details of the land parcels would be recorded and after cross-checking the original details with the revenue department, the local bodies would initiate a demolition exercise to take over the plots.
