PWD begins pothole repairs on Rs 27 crore Seraulim-Colva stretch | Goa News

Colva: The public works department (PWD) on Wednesday began filling potholes on the most expensive two-kilometre stretch of the Seraulim-Colva road, constructed at a cost of Rs. 27.1 crore.TOI, in its Sunday edition, had highlighted the pothole-ridden condition of the road. The deteriorating surface had made driving hazardous, particularly for two-wheeler riders.PWD assistant engineer Leslie Colaco said that the department has taken up the work of filling the potholes. He said that the pothole which had developed in the middle of the road was being dug to remove the loose soil around it.Colaco said that he had not received any information regarding the water pipeline leakage there but added that they would check what caused it.The road, initially estimated at around Rs 16 crore in 2016, received an additional sanction of Rs 11.1 crore in 2018 for enhancements including road dividers, hot-mixing and street lighting. However, the stretch, hot-mixed barely two to three years ago, has again developed potholes after being dug up for the LPG pipeline.Meanwhile, the widening of the road has also led to a rise in roadside commercial activity. Food carts, clothing and raincoat vendors, vehicle repair shops and other businesses have occupied portions of the road, drains and footpaths. Vehicles parked outside repair garages and abandoned vehicles have further contributed to traffic obstruction.Residents also expect the authorities to clear the encroachments and roadside obstructions.
