Delhi Police Bust Pan-India Racket Trading Illegal Cancer Medicines

New Delhi: Delhi Police have apprehended more than 12 people in connection with a pan-India racket allegedly involved in the illegal trade of cancer medicines, including genuine drugs sourced through unauthorised channels and counterfeit medicines.Police sources said the racket involved medicines allegedly stolen from govt and private hospitals and subsequently diverted to the illegal market. Investigators also found that counterfeit drugs were being repackaged and allegedly passed off as genuine medicines before being sold to unsuspecting patients at inflated prices.The accused allegedly targeted expensive cancer medicines, which are in high demand and can cost patients lakhs of rupees. Investigators are now examining the racket’s supply chain, including the source of the stolen and counterfeit medicines, their distribution network and the role of those involved in procuring, storing, repackaging and selling the drugs across the country.The latest crackdown comes amid a series of cases involving counterfeit and illegally traded medicines. In May this year, Delhi Police busted an interstate syndicate allegedly involved in the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit life-saving medicines. Four key operatives were arrested following a raid in north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar, during which a large quantity of pharmaceutical products and equipment was seized.Earlier, in 2024, Delhi Police crime branch unearthed a major racket allegedly involved in the manufacture and sale of counterfeit cancer and chemotherapy drugs. Seven people were arrested in connection with the case.
