Raj HC gives injured aspirants fresh chance for 2025 SI recruitment physical test

Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court, Monday, gave candidates who missed the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) for the Rajasthan Sub-Inspector/Platoon Commander Combined Competitive Examination-2025 due to injuries sustained during preparation, a fresh opportunity to appear for the test in the first or second week of Sept. A single-judge bench passed the order on petitions filed by candidates who had cleared the written examination but could not undertake the PET because of injuries. The court directed the petitioners to deposit Rs 10,000 each towards expenses. One petitioner, Yagya Shukla, was scheduled to appear for his PET on Aug 7 at 5am at the Police Training School, Bansikhurd, Bharatpur. His counsel PC Devanda said Shukla sustained an ankle injury while practising long jump on Aug 2 and was advised one month’s bed rest by a govt hospital. “We informed the court that while practising long jump on Aug 2, he sustained an injury/fracture to his right ankle and lower end of the right fibula,” Devanda said. He said Shukla had submitted a representation on Aug 4 seeking deferment of his PET and appeared before the PET Board on the scheduled date in a plastered condition, along with medical documents. Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) opposed the plea, arguing that allowing fresh opportunities on medical grounds could lead to similar claims and disrupt the recruitment schedule. RPSC counsel Mirza Faisal Baig argued that “such repeated opportunities would affect the schedule of the selection process as well as the RPSC’s recruitment calendar”. The petitioners, however, said they were not seeking any relaxation in the prescribed physical standards, but only an opportunity to take the same test after recovering from their injuries. “Our plea was limited to preservation of their candidature and an opportunity to undertake the same PET after recovery, without compromising the recruitment criteria,” said Ram Pratap Saini, counsel for petitioner Kuldeep. The court directed that the petitioners be permitted to undergo a fresh physical examination in September, subject to payment of Rs 10,000 each towards expenses. The order provides relief to the injured candidates while keeping the prescribed physical standards and recruitment criteria unchanged.
