Gorakhpur: A flood relief team of the 26th Battalion PAC, Gorakhpur, rescued a youth who had jumped into the Rapti River in an alleged attempt to end his life, highlighting the effectiveness of the Uttar Pradesh government’s flood preparedness measures.In view of the flood situation in some districts of Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government has directed the administration to remain fully prepared for relief and rescue operations. Accordingly, relief teams are being deployed in flood-affected and vulnerable areas, necessary resources, including motorboats, are being made available, and personnel are being trained in rescue operations. The impact of these preparations was witnessed in Gorakhpur when a flood relief team became a lifeline for a youth who jumped into the Rapti River.There was a commotion at Ramghat in Nausadh on the Rapti River on Friday evening when a youth jumped into the river with the intention of ending his life. To save him, the flood relief team of the 26th Battalion PAC, Gorakhpur, immediately launched a rescue operation.According to the 26th Battalion PAC, Gorakhpur, Umesh Kumar, a resident of Dhanghata in Sant Kabir Nagar, jumped into the Rapti River around 6 pm. At the time, B Company of the PAC was deployed at Ramghat for flood relief training and duty. Personnel were undergoing training in flood relief operations when they spotted the youth drowning in the river. Head Constable Mahatma Prasad immediately took charge of the rescue operation.Under the leadership of Mahatma Prasad, the team immediately entered the river in a motorboat and began searching for the youth. The team located and rescued him safely within a very short time. Following the rescue, the youth was handed over to the local police for necessary action. His condition is now reported to be normal.
