NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in several parts of the country on Wednesday, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over east Madhya Pradesh.Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely in parts of several states, while isolated places in Himachal Pradesh are under a yellow alert for heavy rain from Wednesday to Friday.

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over east Madhya Pradesh.Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, east Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Punjab, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Uttarakhand.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely at isolated places in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and north interior Karnataka.Similar conditions are also possible over Bihar, east Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, south interior Karnataka, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Telangana.Thunderstorms with lightning are also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Uttarakhand.
North India under rain alert
Himachal Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rain on Wednesday and is expected to remain wet through August 23. The Shimla Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain at isolated places from Wednesday to Friday.Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand are also likely to receive heavy rain on Wednesday, while east Uttar Pradesh is expected to see heavy rain.
Central India forecast
East Madhya Pradesh is likely to see heavy to very heavy rain on Wednesday, with very heavy rainfall possible at isolated places.Chhattisgarh is also likely to receive heavy rain on Wednesday, while rainfall activity is expected to remain widespread over east Madhya Pradesh through August 23.West Madhya Pradesh is likely to see widespread rainfall through August 21, with heavy rain possible from August 20 to 23.
Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar weather
Jharkhand is likely to receive heavy rain on Wednesday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also possible over parts of the state.Bihar is likely to receive heavy rain, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds also possible.Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to receive heavy rain on Wednesday, while rainfall activity is expected to continue through August 21.
Northeast under rain watch

West India forecast
Gujarat is likely to see thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds on Wednesday.Konkan and Goa are likely to continue receiving widespread rainfall through August 23.Parts of central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra and Kutch may receive rain over the coming days.
South India rain forecast
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to receive heavy rain on Wednesday.Parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka may receive rain, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh, north interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema.Telangana may also see thunderstorms and gusty winds.
