Lucknow: State govt on Monday said it would strengthen monitoring and distribution systems to ensure the availability of fertilisers to farmers during the ongoing Kharif 2026 season.Chairing a review meeting on fertiliser availability and distribution, chief secretary SP Goyal directed officials to ensure the timely supply of fertilisers to farmers and place societies with low or zero stock under special monitoring.According to the review, as of Aug 12, the state had 5.02 lakh metric tonnes of urea and 4.04 lakh metric tonnes of phosphatic fertilisers available. So far in the Kharif 2026 season, 10.83 lakh metric tonnes of fertilisers have been distributed.Instructions were issued to ensure adequate fertiliser availability at all cooperative societies and distribution centres. Special reviews of societies with low or zero stock will be conducted, and immediate replenishment will be arranged wherever necessary. State govt has also decided to designate an officer of ADM or CDO rank as the nodal officer in every district.“To prevent any difficulty for farmers in flood-affected areas in accessing fertilizers, alternative arrangements, such as linking them to the nearest society, should be made wherever required,” Goyal said. The chief secretary directed chief development officers (CDOs) to review fertiliser availability and distribution on a daily basis, while District magistrates (DMs) will conduct weekly reviews. He stressed that there should be no complaints regarding overpricing or unauthorised tagging of fertilisers.Arrangements have also been made to link farmers in flood-affected areas with the nearest alternative societies to ensure uninterrupted access to fertilisers. Adequate numbers of trucks have been deployed for fertiliser transportation across districts.State govt said that, as part of its farmer-centric approach, special emphasis is being placed on ensuring the timely availability of fertilisers and monitoring supplies down to the district level. To facilitate farmers, the cooperative department has also kept a control room operational.
