Bengaluru: At least 25.1 lakh voters in Karnataka are set to receive notices after the draft electoral roll is published on Aug 24, with the number likely to rise as the Election Commission screens 4.5 crore voters for logical discrepancies. With the enumeration phase ending Monday, over 80.46% of the state’s 5.5 crore-plus voters are expected to figure in the draft roll. Nearly 1.08 crore voters — or 19.5% of the current electorate — are expected to be left out at this stage. The over 25.1 lakh voters already identified for notices are those whose details couldn’t be mapped to 2002 SIR data. In addition, the data of over 4.4 crore voters in the draft will be processed to identify possible logical discrepancies. “The data will be run through the system for logical discrepancies. If flagged, the voter will be sent a written communication, also called a ‘notice’, to furnish documents that will prove legitimacy to hold a voter ID here,” an EC official had said earlier.Officials added that such discrepancies could include a breach of the minimum age difference between a parent and child or a grandparent and grandchild, or an unusually high number of children linked to the same parent.Chief electoral officer Anbu Kumar had maintained that voters would know the specific discrepancy flagged against their records only after the draft rolls are published on Aug 24. The documents required to address each category of discrepancy will also be specified then. The claims and objections period will begin with the publication of draft roll and continue till Oct 22, giving voters an opportunity to challenge omissions and submit supporting documents.Rejoining rolls via Form 6Those left out of the draft roll will have a route to seek inclusion. They can submit Form 6 along with the declaration form. Form 6 is used for new voter registration, while Form 6A is meant for new registration of overseas Indian voters. Form 7 is used for deletion of names and Form 8 for correction of entries. The forms can be submitted online through ECINET mobile app or Election Commission’s voter services portal. Those who turn 18 before Oct 1, 2026, have been encouraged to apply so they can be considered for enrolment under the SIR exercise.
