Pune: Baramati MP and working president of NCP (SP) Supriya Sule on Monday said that her party will oppose hill cutting and for road projects in Pune, including the Patal Lok project.“We are not against development, but it should not come at the cost of environment,” she said, adding that they have also opposed the Balbharati to Paud Phata road. She was speaking to reporters after a visit to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).Supriya said that hill cutting should stop immediately and warned that her party’s members, both political workers and residents, will take to the streets against such destruction. She said the appointment of BJP functionary Girish Mahajan as Nashik’s guardian minister was wrong, given the allegations of corruption and fake tenders surrounding the Kumbh event. “PM Narendra Modi promised us ‘Na Khaunga, Na Khane Dunga’. He should look into Maharashtra and the corruption here,” she said. The MP called for a review of tribal schools and urged MPs and MLAs to inspect ashramshalas in their jurisdictions, suggesting the use of CSR funds where needed.Supriya said the state govt has failed in urbanisation and in addressing civic issues despite being in power for seven years. During her meeting with PMC officials, she brought up potholes, garbage, property tax in merged areas, pollution in Undri, construction on a nullah in Bavdhan, and power disruptions in Dhayari.Sule also said govt has failed to tackle paper leaks and that NEP has not delivered, adding that special efforts must be made to help Marathi schools survive. She also questioned why the industry department was not rolling out the red carpet for industries. On allegations that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi opposed ‘Vande Mataram’, Sule said that she could not confirm the authenticity of the video. She said govt should clarify its stand on Ayodhya Ram Temple issues and reveal who ordered the firing on agitators at Jantar Mantar during the recent CJP protests. On autorickshaw drivers learning Marathi, Sule said it will help customer-friendly service. Her party workers protested over poor roads, hyacinth-clearance tenders, and recurring flood risks along Sinhagad Road and the proposal to rename the mayor’s residence on Ghole Road.Shrikant Patil, city unit chief of NCP (SP), said, “Massive potholes are endangering lives. The ruling party recently approved a tender to clear hyacinth from Mula-Mutha river that heavy rainfall and water discharge had already washed away, making the fresh expenditure wasteful. A thorough inquiry is a must.”
