Ahmedabad: A 21-year-old man from Sabarkantha died at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital on Saturday following a surgical procedure, triggering protests by his relatives, who alleged medical negligence and demanded action against those responsible. The deceased, Yuvraj Nadiya, a resident of Varvada village, had been admitted to the hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in an accident about a month ago. According to family members, the wounds were not healing despite treatment, following which he was admitted to the hospital’s plastic surgery department.Relatives said Yuvraj underwent plastic surgery on Saturday and was shifted to a ward. They alleged that he failed to regain consciousness after the procedure due to an allegedly high dose of anaesthesia and died about three hours later. The family staged a protest at the hospital, accusing the doctors of negligence. They also alleged that doctors on duty failed to respond adequately to their concerns after Yuvraj’s condition deteriorated. The relatives further claimed that when they noticed some individuals allegedly smoking cigarettes and attempted to record videos, security personnel stopped them from filming and allegedly seized their case papers.Responding to the allegations, Civil Hospital medical superintendent Dr Rakesh Joshi described the procedure as routine and said the exact cause of death would be investigated.
