Youth injured in car crash on Delhi-Meerut eway dies
Car carrying youth, his father and three police personnel crashed into a canter taking a U-turn on the expressway

Noida: A 20-year-old man who had been missing from his Aligarh home for five days died on Friday after the police vehicle bringing him back home collided with a canter on Delhi-Meerut Expressway.According to cops, Ashu, who was addicted to online gaming, had been traced to Delhi and was being driven back to Aligarh via Meerut by a three-member police team comprising sub-inspector Upendra, head constable Narendra and recruit constable Ritik, and his father in a Swift around 5 am on Thursday.The car hit a canter that had overshot the cut for Lal Kuan underpass by about 50 metres and was attempting a U-turn on the expressway. All five occupants of the car were seriously injured. SI Upendra died during treatment on Thursday. Constable Ritik remains in critical condition at Yashoda Hospital in Kaushambi, while the others are under treatment at GTB Hospital in Delhi, where Ashu died on Friday.Upendra’s brother, Sanjeev, filed a formal complaint with police on Saturday, alleging that the canter was being driven negligently and at high speed, causing the collision.The canter driver fled the scene after the crash and is yet to be traced. Police have impounded the vehicle.An FIR has been registered under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence), 125(b) (act endangering life) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.An officer said the exact cause of the collision, including the canter’s speed and the sequence of events, will be established during the investigation.
