Dibrugarh: Minister Sushanta Borgohain inaugurated the new Demow Police Station building in Sivasagar district on Friday.Sivasagar SSP Papori Chetia and other senior district police officials attended the event, held on the eve of the 80th Independence Day.The building was constructed under Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI), which seeks to modernise police infrastructure across Assam and make police stations citizen-friendly and efficient.Borgohain, the state water resources and judicial minister, said, “A police station is often the first point of contact between the common citizen and the administration. Under the MOITRI scheme, we are ensuring that our police personnel work from modern, well-equipped premises so that they can serve the people with greater efficiency and dignity.”“This new building is not just an infrastructure upgrade. It reflects the govt’s larger vision of building public trust in law enforcement. I am confident that the police force here will use these improved facilities to deliver faster and more responsive service to the people,” he added.Chetia thanked state govt for improving police infrastructure. “This new building will greatly enhance our operational capacity and improve the working environment for our personnel, which in turn will benefit the public we serve,” she said.A Tiranga Yatra was later flagged off from the police station as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Senior officers and other police personnel participated in the rally.
