Kolkata: CBI on Friday arrested a proclaimed offender, Masad Sheikh, from Mumbai’s Dongri in connection with the 2022 Bhadu Sheikh murder case.Masad had been on the run since the initial registration of the FIR in 2022 and had evaded both the investigation and ongoing trial proceedings.TMC panchayat deputy chief Bhadu Sheikh was murdered on March 21, 2022, at Birbhum’s Bogtui village. The murder triggered widespread violence in the region.CBI, which took up the case after a Calcutta High Court order, filed a main charge sheet and subsequent supplementary charge sheets between 2022 and 2023 against nine accused persons, including Masad, before the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate in Rampurhat. The trial of the case was later transferred to the court of the additional district and sessions judge in East Burdwan.Arrangements are being made to bring the arrested accused from Mumbai to Kolkata on transit remand.
