Hyderabad: Four persons, including a repeat offender, were arrested by EAGLE police under dramatic circumstances in Balanagar on Thursday, after one of the accused released a dog to threaten the police and attacked an inspector with a screwdriver..Police seized 14 kg of ganja and an airgun from the accused. Three of them, identified as Durga Prasad, B Kiran and B Kamalakar, are brothers and natives of Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh. They had been staying in Balanagar for the last several months.Recently, after police nabbed a drug abuser, they got leads about the source of the ganja. After tracing the location to an independent house in Balanagar, police reached the spot. On seeing the EAGLE team, the accused first released a dog.While police were trying to nab the two persons in their sight, Kamalakar picked up a screwdriver and attacked a policeman. Meanwhile, hearing the commotion, Kiran, who was on the terrace, came down. On seeing the police, he pushed them and jumped into a neighbouring building.While reaching the third floor, Kiran snatched the mobile phone of a resident and started recording a selfie video, threatening to jump. “Police are downstairs. Brother (police), if you come up, I will jump to death and you will be responsible,” Kiran threatened.Later, he came to the second floor and finally jumped. Kiran suffered fractures in both his legs.The accused had 203 clients, of whom 100 were called by police for testing. Among them, 74 tested positive for ganja.“The accused were following the dead-drop modus operandi, where the buyer will get both the location and photograph of the place from where they can pick up [the ganja],” EAGLE superintendent of police Giridhar told TOI.Police said Durga Prasad was arrested in 2020, but he and the others allegedly conspired to start peddling ganja in 2022. They were sourcing ganja from multiple persons in Odisha. Along with the three brothers, Kiran’s wife was also assisting them. All four persons were arrested on Thursday.
