Lucknow: The Lucknow Traffic Police seized 59 vehicles and issued 3,675 challans during a citywide enforcement drive on Thursday, focusing on illegal passenger vehicles, unauthorised parking and other violations that contribute to traffic congestion.The operation, conducted in compliance with directions of the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad high court, covered key stretches including Polytechnic, Kamta, Chinhat, Alambagh and Ahimamau.Among the violations, police issued 1,665 challans for riding without helmets, 1,061 for illegal parking, 727 for wrong-side driving, 268 for defective number plates, 265 for driving without insurance and 205 for triple riding.Officials said special attention was paid to illegal passenger vehicles and vehicles parked near intersections that obstruct traffic flow. The Kamta-Polytechnic corridor on Ayodhya Road remains under special surveillance, with action being intensified against commercial vehicles stopping at unauthorised locations to pick up or drop passengers.As part of the exercise, a joint inspection of the Polytechnic-Chinhat stretch and adjoining roads identified 153 congestion points requiring corrective measures.Police said efforts are underway in coordination with concerned departments to improve road width utilisation, remove unauthorised parking and ease bottlenecks.Traffic police said the drive is part of an ongoing campaign and similar action will continue against illegal vehicles, wrong-side driving, no-parking violations and other traffic offences.Commuters have been urged to avoid unauthorised passenger vehicles and follow traffic rules to help ensure smoother traffic movement across the city.
