Varanasi: To ensure safety of women and girls, especially near schools and public places, Varanasi Police intensified Mission Shakti 5.0 and Anti-Romeo campaign on Wednesday. During the campaign, 954 persons were warned, 43 cases were registered and 101 persons were challaned.In Dashashwamedh area, Chowki in charge Anuj Mani Tiwari, along with the Mission Shakti team and police force, conducted a special checking drive near schools. During school hours, two men were caught smoking in front of Indira Gandhi Balika Inter College, August Kunda. The two were identified as Ayush Verma, resident of Delwariya, Jaitpura, and Rakesh Singh, resident of Ganesh Mahal, Khalishpura. According to police, both apologised for their tobacco use and loitering near a girls school.In another action, Luxa police arrested two men for making obscene gestures, singing and passing lewd remarks at women and girls near Mazda parking. The accused were identified as Govind Chaurasia, 36, resident of Purana Paan Dariba, and Rahul Yadav, 25, resident of Shivpurwa and a case under section 296 BNS was registered against them at Luxa police station.Acting on information that a youth was passing obscene comments at women and girls near the veterinary hospital in Jakhini, a team from Rajatalab Police Station reached the spot and arrested Kartikeya Patel, 23, resident of Mahgaon village, Rajatalab and registered a case under section 296 BNS.Jansa Police arrested five youths during checking near schools and routes used by girl students. Police said the accused were making obscene gestures, passing objectionable remarks and harassing students. The arrested accused were identified as Raja Banvasi, 20, Rohit Banvasi, 22, both residents of Jaunpur district, Aman Kumar, 20, resident of Kamalpur, Jansa, Vishal Rajbhar, 22, and Vikas Rajbhar, 22, both residents of Madhopur, Badagaon. Legal action was taken under section 296 BNS.The campaign was conducted on the directions of Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal under the second phase of Mission Shakti 5.0. Anti-Romeo teams, Mission Shakti teams and police personnel carried out checking, patrolling and monitoring near co-educational and girls’ schools.
