Chennai: Airport police arrested a 73-year-old man for cheating job-seekers by promising employment at Chennai airport. Investigators said the accused collected money from people, claiming he could secure govt jobs through his contacts. The accused, Sankaraiah, an Andhra Pradesh native, stayed in Alandur. He was arrested on a complaint from Ramamoorthy of Tambaram. Police said Ramamoorthy got acquainted with Sankaraiah on a city bus. When Ramamoorthy said his daughter, an engineering graduate, was looking for a job, Sankaraiah claimed he could arrange a job for her in the Customs department at the airport.He collected ₹71,000 in various instalments, claiming it had to be paid to Customs officials to complete the appointment process. When he asked Ramamoorthy to bring the money to the entrance of Chennai airport, he grew suspicious and alerted the airport police. Police nabbed Sankaraiah when he arrived to collect the cash. Police arrested him and sent him to Puzhal prison.
