Gorakhpur: A modern 508-bed accommodation facility for attendants of patients will soon come up at Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, officials said.The five-storey building, estimated to cost Rs 43.69 crore, will come up on a 5,600-square-metre site behind the RMRC-ICMR. The Medical Education Department has released the first instalment of Rs 5 crore to the executing agency, C&Ds Unit-19 of Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Urban).The stilt floor will house parking, a dining hall, kitchen, pantry and store, while the first to fifth floors will provide rooms and dormitories for patients’ attendants.The first and second floors will have 56 beds each, and the remaining three floors will have 132 beds each.All rooms will have attached toilets and bathrooms. The building will also feature a 20-person-capacity lift, staircases and CCTV surveillance.C&Ds-19 Resident Engineer Sandeep Kumar Chaurasia said the tender process had been completed and contract formalities were underway. Construction will begin after the process is completed.The facility is expected to benefit families arriving from eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Nepal, offering attendants a secure and dignified place to stay during their patients’ treatment.
