Retain last paraBengaluru: Namma Metro saw its highest ridership Monday (Aug 10), with close to 11.2 lakh passengers travelling on the three operational lines in a single day. The previous highest ridership was recorded on Aug 14, 2025, when 10.8 lakh passengers travelled on Metro.Officials attributed Monday’s record ridership to multiple factors, including the return of people to the city after weekend, the usual office rush, rain and other factors that prompted more commuters to opt for the popular mode of transport.Purple Line recorded the highest line-wise boardings at 4,66,371, followed by Green Line with 2,85,499 and Yellow Line with 92,838. Interchange passengers accounted for 2,75,107 boardings at Majestic and RV Road interchange stations.BMRCL currently operates a 96-km network with 83 stations. Of the passengers who travelled Monday, around 2.8 lakh bought tokens, while 2 lakh used NCMC cards and nearly 1 lakh QR tickets. The remaining passengers used other modes of ticketing.Increase train frequency: CommutersWhile commuters welcomed the new ridership record, several also raised concerns over the pressure on the existing network. Passengers said BMRCL should increase train frequency, particularly during peak hours, to ease congestion at major stations such as Majestic, RV Road and other busy interchanges.Several passengers also complained of having to wait for longer periods in queues to enter stations, with security screening taking considerable time during peak hours. They demanded that BMRCL deploy more screening machines and additional security personnel to manage queues and speed up entry during peak periods.The 19km Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra completed one year of operations Tuesday.The latest ridership milestone comes at a time when a CAG audit highlighted shortcomings in the project, including poor execution of last-mile connectivity and inadequate integration of Metro with other modes of public transport, particularly BMTC buses.
