BENGALURU: Food safety officials in Bengaluru have continued their crackdown on unhygienic kitchens, inspecting government-run Indira Canteens in Bommanahalli and Lingarajpuram and issuing notices over alleged violations.The inspections were carried out on Tuesday as part of an ongoing drive by the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department to check compliance with food safety regulations across the city.The inspections come days after the department conducted checks at several high-end restaurants and hotels in Bengaluru.During those inspections on Sunday, officials seized and disposed of 132kg of food items, including rotten chicken and beef, some of which had fungal growth.Expired milk and curd packets were also found at an upscale rooftop lounge in UB City, whose kitchen was subsequently closed for being maintained in an unhygienic manner.The department said it had inspected 60 three-star and five-star hotels across Bengaluru Urban district during a three-day special food safety drive and collected 77 food samples for laboratory analysis.Officials reported several violations, including expired food products, improper storage of meat and fish, unhygienic food-handling conditions, fungal growth in vegetables and inadequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.Notices have been issued to establishments where violations were found, with recommendations for further legal action, the department said.(With inputs from PTI)
