Lucknow: Vehemently opposing the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) proposed by the Modi govt, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said it was aimed at targeting minorities to take over their institutions and grab their land.“We are opposing FCRA because BJP is a bhu mafia (land mafia) party and wants to grab prime land of the NGOs. Anyone can find out how a BJP functionary grabbed a chunk of land belonging to an NGO in a major city of Uttar Pradesh. This is only one example. There are innumerable such incidents,” Akhilesh told reporters in the Parliament complex.Modi govt, however, claims that FCRA will allow the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure that foreign funding to individuals, associations, NGOs, and companies in India cannot be used to harm national security or public order. The SP though calls the Bill a BJP ploy to take over and control institutions.“They (BJP) want to intimidate institutions with FCRA law. They want to take over institutions. There is a reason why I say that BJP is a Bhu mafia party,” Akhilesh said. He said if govt wants to bring FCRA, it should first reveal the amount of money that goes out of India. Foreign funds entering India need control but why is there no control over Indian money going out of the country, he asked.“Govt should remember its old slogans and promises where it assured that black money will be brought back, that govt will not allow anyone flee from India after … but the fact is that ever since the BJP has formed govt, only the rich are witnessing achche din (good days). When will govt impose restrictions on the rich and affluent taking money outside India and bring it into India. if govt does not impose any restriction in the rich to check flow of funds from abroad into India and vice-versa then it would mean that the FCRA is aimed to target minorities,” the SP chief said. Before FCRA, give details of RSS funding: Dimple to BJPSP MP Dimple Yadav on Monday demanded that govt must give details of funds received and spent by RSS before talking about FCRA. “Govt should reveal if RSS is registered or not. Where does the RSS get the funds from to operate,” Dimple told reporters at the Parliament complex. She said FCRA Bill was being introduced to create pressure on NGOs and religious entities to usurp their chunks of land in prime localities across the country.Akhilesh flays attack on MamataAkhilesh Yadav attacked the BJP govts in the Centre and West Bengal over the attack on TMC chief Mamata Banerjee’s motorcade in Bengal. “It’s very sad that such an incident happens in a democracy, where someone who is such a senior leader and has been the Chief Minister there, and then an attack happens on her. Govts come and go, how can you insult someone like that, she should be given security,” Akhilesh said.
