Gurgaon: An Audi rammed into multiple vehicles, injuring a kanwariya travelling on a bike on Dwarka Expressway on Sunday night.According to police, the driver, Mayank Kumar (25), a resident of Tirpadi, was in an inebriated state. He first hit a bike, then a tempo, before ramming into a car and overturning it.The victim said he was travelling towards Dharam Colony from Dwarka Expressway on a motorcycle along with his friend.He said that when they reached M3M in Sector 113, the car approached at a high speed and in a negligent manner and rammed into their motorcycle from behind.Due to the impact, both riders fell onto the road and sustained serious injuries. However, the driver did not stop there. He went on and hit a tempo on the way, then collided with another car that eventually overturned from the impact. A truck was also hit in the accident.Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under sections 281 (rash driving) and 125 (act endangering life) of BNS at Bajghera police station; Mayank was arrested on Monday, and the car was impounded.“The accused Mayank Kumar was medically examined, which confirmed that he had consumed alcohol,” an officer said.In another incident, a truck hit a kanwar yatra volunteer walking alongside the road on Delhi-Jaipur highway near Jharsa in the early hours of Monday.The incident left Shrikant, a resident of Alwar, Rajasthan, injured. The incident sparked unrest among the Kanwars present at the scene. Angered by the situation, they began pelting stones at the truck, smashing its windshield and windows. As the crowd grew unruly, a police PCR van arrived at the spot and took the driver into custody.“The driver, Virender Singh, has been taken into custody along with the truck. The injured was shifted to the hospital, after which he was taken to Alwar by family members,” a police officer said.Based on the complaint by the injured’s brother, Balbir Prajapati, a case has been filed against the accused truck driver.The final days of the yatra brought traffic chaos to the city, with jams at multiple points. A wrong-side truck at Rajiv Chowk compounded the problem, while evening traffic clogged Delhi-Jaipur highway, Delhi-Alwar road, and especially the expressway’s service lanes, as Kanwars returned from Haridwar.To ease congestion within the city, traffic police diverted heavy vehicles to Dwarka Expressway and KMP Road during the final days of the yatra. A traffic officer said that between Aug 9 and 11, all heavy vehicles bound for Rajasthan, Jhajjar, Rewari, Pataudi, Nuh, and Faridabad via Delhi-Gurgaon corridor must take only these routes. The move, he said, was intended to prevent inconvenience for kanwariyas, dak kanwariyas, and the general public.
