Sandeshkhali stir face accused of not paying rent
BJP Hingalganj MLA Rekha Patra BJP candidate during filling nomination at Barasat

Kolkata: A monk from Hingalganj in North 24 Parganas on Monday complained to CM Suvendu Adhikari at Janata Darbar that BJP MLA Rekha Patra had occupied his house since March without paying most of the rent. Patra was the face of the Sandeshkhali agitation against Sheikh Shahjahan.Keshabananda Maharaj, a resident of Lebukhali, said Patra had rented 12 rooms on his four-bigha property and paid only two months’ rent. He alleged she had neither vacated the house nor bought it as agreed.“The house was supposed to be sold to her for Rs 1.25 crore, but she hasn’t bought it. She is neither paying rent nor buying the house,” Maharaj said, alleging that Patra and her staff had also harassed him and his employees.Patra could not be contacted. Sources close to her said she had been unable to attend the assembly for several months after suffering a leg fracture and had told Maharaj she would submit the paperwork for her MLA salary.BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar said the party would allow the law to take its course and that no one would get political immunity. Party sources did not rule out involvement of Patra’s rivals in the complaint.
