Mapusa: Mandrem police arrested a Japanese national for allegedly staying in India without a valid visa or required travel documents. The accused, identified as Arifumi, son of Masato Tomiyama, was apprehended during a routine local verification near Madhalamaj in Mandrem on Friday.According to police, Tomiyama was found residing in the area without valid travel documents since the evening of Aug 7. Police said his stay was in violation of immigration regulations and subsequently registered an offence against him under sections of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.The arrest followed a local verification conducted by police personnel in the area. Officials are now examining the circumstances surrounding his stay in Goa, including his movements and the duration of his presence in the country.Assistant sub-inspector Sanjay Pednekar is conducting further investigation into the case. Police are also verifying the accused’s travel and immigration records as part of the probe.
