BENGALURU: A 25-year-old delivery executive was allegedly abused and assaulted with a wooden stick by a group of unidentified people in Bengaluru’s Yelahanka area in the early hours of Saturday, police said.The victim, identified as Basavaraj, is pursuing his studies while also working for a quick-commerce delivery platform, according to news agency PTI.According to police, the incident took place around 4.40am when Basavaraj was returning from 4th Phase in Yelahanka New Town to Santhosh Nagar after completing a delivery.As per the FIR, Basavaraj was travelling on the road when a group of girls walking nearby allegedly began abusing him.He approached them and told them that he did not know Hindi, asking them to explain in Kannada why they were abusing him.In his complaint, Basavaraj alleged that the girls continued to abuse him, pulled his cap and attempted to assault him.Following the altercation, he called the police helpline 112 and also contacted an acquaintance, Ashok.“The girls who had stopped him allegedly called some boys to the spot. Subsequently, about four to five boys and girls together allegedly assaulted him with their hands and a wooden stick lying on the road, hitting him on his back, head and nose and causing bleeding injuries,” the FIR stated.The complaint further alleged that when Ashok reached the spot to help him, he was also struck on the head. The accused allegedly abused both men using filthy language and threatened them, saying they would not be spared.Based on Basavaraj’s complaint, Yelahanka New Town Police registered a case against unidentified persons under Sections 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
