Agartala: The district administration of Tripura’s Gomati has announced an immediate ban on the use of candles within the premises of Mata Tripureswari temple, one of the 51 Shaktipeeths, citing fire safety concerns.According to Gomati district magistrate & collector, the decision follows observations that a significant number of devotees have been lighting candles and agarbattis at designated offering points. Authorities said the open flames, particularly when placed near trees and other flammable materials, pose a serious fire hazard that could threaten public safety and the temple structure.With immediate effect, lighting candles inside the temple premises has been prohibited. Devotees may continue to use agarbattis, but only under strict safety regulations. As an alternative, the administration has recommended the use of traditional diyas, provided they are placed only at designated locations and handled in line with safety guidelines set by the temple management.Shopkeepers operating in and around the temple premises have been instructed to stop selling candles.The temple management and staff have been tasked with supervising offering points and assisting devotees in complying with the new rules. The officer-in-charge of protocol affairs will oversee implementation in coordination with temple officials.The administration said the directive is intended to ensure public safety and reduce fire hazards, and is not aimed at interfering with religious practices or sentiments.
