Amritsar: The Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De ), which is led by jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, has turned its attention to women to shape its outreach at the grassroots.Signalling an effort to broaden its base beyond its traditional support network, the women’s wing of the party held a major meeting in Amritsar on Thursday to strengthen and expand its district-level structure. Party chief spokesperson Shamsher Singh Padhri said the meeting, led by women’s wing president Harpreet Kaur Tur, focused on organisational expansion, enrolling new members and preparing the women’s unit for upcoming political and organisational programmes.Women from different assembly segments of Amritsar district attended the meeting, where discussions centred on extending the party’s presence to every village and urban locality.*Balwinder Kaur, mother of MP Amritpal Singh, also addressed the gathering and stressed the historic role of women in Sikh history. She said women had always played an inspirational role in safeguarding Sikh values and should once again come forward in large numbers to contribute to society, the Panth and the rights of Punjab.She urged participants to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots and expand its reach across the district.Padhri added that expanding the women’s organisation would enhance the party’s grassroots strength and help connect more women with its ideology and programmes. The participants also resolved to intensify efforts to take the party’s message to households across Punjab while accelerating the expansion of the women’s wing, underscoring growing emphasis on organisation-building as it prepares for the state’s next political contest.
