Palanpur: Modasa Town police helped a victim of illegal moneylending recover property allegedly taken over by two persons after the victim was forced to pay Rs 91 lakh as interest on a loan of Rs 16 lakh.According to police, the victim approached Aravalli superintendent of police Manoharsinh Jadeja after facing harassment over the loan and a complaint was subsequently filed at the Modasa Town policeDuring the investigation, police arrested Vijay Desai, a resident of Sabalpur in Modasa taluka, and Nikul Rabari of Dhansura taluka.Police said the two accused had allegedly lent Rs 16 lakh to the complainant and subsequently forced the victim to make repeated payments towards interest, principal and penalties. The victim had allegedly paid Rs 91 lakh as interest until the complaint was lodged.Despite this, the accused continued demanding another Rs 1.15 crore and had obtained property documents in their own names and those of their relatives.“During the investigation, police identified property that had been sold off in lieu of the principal and interest. Following discussions and with the consent of both parties, the property documents were executed and the property was returned to the complainant under the police’s ‘Tera Tujhko Arpan’ initiative,” Jadeja said.
