Gorakhpur: A woman doctor has lodged an FIR against her husband, an anaesthesiologist, along with her in-laws, alleging dowry harassment, extortion, attempt to murder and bigamy. The case was registered at Shahpur police station on Monday night.The 35-year-old complainant, currently posted in Basti, alleged that her husband repeatedly drugged her by mixing intoxicants in soft drinks, recorded her nude photographs and videos while she was unconscious, and later used them to blackmail her for money.According to the FIR, the couple married on Nov 29, 2019. The woman alleged that despite her family spending nearly Rs 50 lakh on the wedding, her husband and in-laws continuously pressured her to arrange money for an SUV. She claimed that under threats of the videos being made public, her family paid Rs 32.5 lakh in 2022 for the vehicle. She further alleged that her husband forced her to break an FD and took Rs 10 lakh from it.The doctor also accused her husband of having relationships with multiple women and claimed that he married another woman doctor without obtaining a divorce. She alleged that when she objected, she was subjected to physical assault by her husband and in-laws.In another serious allegation, the complainant stated that on May 7, 2026, she was allegedly beaten and an attempt was made to hang her from a ceiling fan using a rope, but she survived after the rope snapped. She further alleged that she was later thrown out of the home along with her two children.Shahpur SHO Jitendra Kumar Singh said an FIR has been registered under relevant sections and an investigation is underway. Police said further action will be taken based on evidence collected during the probe.
