Noida: Residents of Sector 19 faced a power outage for over six hours on Monday, followed by intermittent disruptions on Tuesday, after a transformer broke down.The outage left residents struggling in heat and humidity, as many residents said their inverters failed after prolonged usage. Other sectors, including 71 and 40, also reported power-related complaints.RWA president of Sector 19 RC Gupta said, “The power department initiated a shutdown from midnight, 12 a.m. to 1 p.m. for repairs. However, the shutdown extended for another hour. Block C again experienced a sudden breakdown. After multiple attempts to reach out to the power department, around 3 p.m., a junior engineer responded that a transformer had to be replaced and would take the next three to four hours. Finally, the power supply was restored by 6.15 p.m.”The sector experienced frequent cuts even after the installation of a new transformer, with disruptions extending to Tuesday.Expressing frustration over the repeated breakdowns, Gupta added, “This transformer has been repaired several times in the past month. It’s unacceptable for residents to be left without electricity for such a long duration in this hot weather.”RWA general secretary of Sector 19 Laxmi Narain, raising concerns over inadequate infrastructure, said that over the past three years, the UP govt allocated over Rs 250 crore for infrastructure improvements. “Despite the allocation and repeated assurances from officials, we have seen little to no improvement in the situation,” Narain said.Residents from other sectors also reported similar experiences. General secretary of the Sector 71 RWA, Sunil Wadhwa said frequent power cuts occur almost twice a day. “The state of the transformer in Sector 40’s B Block also poses a risk of electrocution during the rainy season,” general secretary of Sector 40 RWA Mohinder Singh said.While officials in the department assured that the necessary steps are being taken to address complaints, residents call for immediate action and accountability from the power department.
