Panaji: Monsoon showers lashed Goa on Monday, with Valpoi recording 124.2mm in 24 hours, the only station in the state to receive very heavy rainfall.According to the India meteorological department (IMD) Goa, Sanguem recorded 75.3mm, while Dharbandora received 68.2mm, placing both stations in the heavy rainfall category.Several other parts of the state experienced moderate rainfall. Ela (Old Goa) received 63.6mm, closely followed by Mapusa (63.2mm), Sanquelim (56.8mm), Panaji (52.3mm), Quepem (47mm), Pernem (32.4mm), Margao (25.6mm) and Ponda (20.8mm).Light rainfall was reported from Mormugao (9.6mm), Dabolim (8mm) and Canacona (3.2mm).Despite widespread showers, Goa’s monsoon rainfall remains 32.8% below normal, with 1,382.8mm received between June 1 and Aug 3 against the seasonal average of 2,057.6mm.The IMD has forecast moderate rainfall across Goa over the week.
