Howrah: A private tutor in Howrah helped police arrest her husband after allegedly catching him raping a 14-year-old Class 7 student inside their home on Monday morning.The accused, Sk Hafizul (40), was arrested from Munshirhat in Jagatballavpur under the POCSO Act after his wife, Chandana Bibi, witnessed the alleged assault and raised an alarm. Neighbours rushed to the house, caught Hafizul and thrashed him before police arrived and took him into custody.Police said the case was registered on the basis of Chandana’s eyewitness account and a complaint lodged by the survivor’s mother.According to investigators, Chandana teaches a few girls at her home. Around 7am, the student arrived for tuition while Chandana stepped out briefly to buy groceries. Hafizul, who runs an embroidery workshop from the house, was alone with the girl as his workers had not yet arrived.On returning, Chandana heard screams from the workshop room and allegedly found Hafizul assaulting the minor. She alerted neighbours and called police.Police sources said Chandana, in her statement, sought the strictest punishment for her husband.
