Jodhpur: An eight-year-old girl was killed and four members of her family injured when roof slabs of their dilapidated house collapsed during early morning rain in Jodhpur Monday.The incident took place around 5 am near Isakiya School in Nagori Silawaton Ka Bas while the family was asleep on the second floor of the two-storey house.Relatives and neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing cries for help, pulled the victims from the debris and took them to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. Doctors declared eight-year-old Alsifa dead on arrival. The others are undergoing treatment.SHO (Sadar bazaar) Manak Ram Bishnoi said the family of Mohammad Irfan was sleeping when four to five roof slabs suddenly gave way. He said the building was in a dilapidated condition and overnight rain is believed to have triggered the collapse.Jodhpur had been receiving intermittent rain since Sunday evening. Preliminary information suggests rainwater accumulated on the roof, weakening the already fragile structure and causing the collapse.A Municipal Corporation team inspected the site after the incident and sealed the unsafe building. Another structurally weak house in the same lane was also sealed as a precaution.Area Sanitary Inspector Prakash Joshi said a drive has been launched to identify and secure dilapidated buildings in the locality. He said another unsafe house in the neighbourhood had been sealed a few days ago after notices were issued to its occupants.
