Guwahati: The Army and Assam Rifles, operating under the Spear Corps, in coordination with state police forces, apprehended 43 people and seized narcotics and other contraband worth an estimated Rs 76.12 crore during monthlong operations across four northeastern states in July.Describing the crackdown as a “Strike Against Narco-Terror”, the Spear Corps, in a social media post on Sunday said intelligence-based joint operations were conducted across Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura between July 1 and 31.The seizures included around 3.67kg of heroin; 14.95kg and 30,000 tablets of methamphetamine, Yaba and crystal meth; 3,500 bottles of codeine; 7.03kg of marijuana; 62,484kg of areca nuts; 2,37,800 foreign cigarette sticks; and around 14,575kg of poppy seeds.In recent operations in Mizoram, Assam Rifles and the directorate of revenue intelligence seized poppy seeds and dry areca nuts worth around Rs 4.10 crore at Vairengte in Kolasib district. In another joint operation with Mizoram Police at Muallungthu in Aizawl district, security personnel recovered methamphetamine tablets valued at over Rs 10 crore and apprehended two people.In separate operations, Assam Rifles and the excise and narcotics department recovered 33 packets of heroin worth around Rs 3.01 crore from Siasi village in Siaha district and apprehended two Myanmar nationals.Assam Rifles and the customs preventive force also seized 501 bags of areca nuts weighing 40,080kg and valued at approximately Rs 4.12 crore along the Champhai-Khawzawl Road.
