Pune: Delay in restoration of water supply to Hadapsar, Kondhwa and Yerawada on Friday left residents agitated after Thursday’s closure. Supply remained disrupted in many pockets till late Friday evening leading to an almost two-day closure.Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)’s water supply department had on Thursday stopped distribution from the Cantonment water works to around nine overhead tanks in Hadapsar, Ramtekdi, Pune Camp, Yerawada, Kharadi and Kondhwa to assist repairs. On Friday morning, the administration took long to restart the supply, residents said.Ananat Rane of Hadapsar area said, “The administration always fails to restart proper water supply on time the day following a closure. The same was on Friday and supply was restored late only in some neighbourhoods and at low pressure.”PMC officials said water pumping started immediately after the repairs. “Distribution was stopped to almost nine overhead tanks and restored in phases. The areas located at the tail end of the chain received water late. Things will be normal on Saturday,” they said.Maintenance and repair activities at the Cantonment water works had been planned in advance by the administration.Additionally, Koregaon Park residents said the problem of low pressure supply and erratic timings was prevailing in their locality for a long time now. Local resident Hari Sharma said water pressure had been low since the last few months hampering overall availability. Also, the problem was not confined to a particular area. Residents from different neighbourhoods had complained of similar issues.Meanwhile, PMC has suspended the alternate-day water supply plan after an increase in water storage in dams. The administration said water supply would now stop only for day-long closures or immediate repairs.
