Noida: The power department has intensified its crackdown on electricity theft in Greater Noida’s rural areas, detecting illegal connections at more than 20 locations over the past two days. On Thursday alone, officials found 7,106 W of unauthorised consumption from three spots in Mehandipur Bangar. FIRs have been filed against the three violators.Additionally, two complaints received through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) and three on the ‘Bijli Mitra’ portal led to officials finding another unit using an unauthorised load of 1,340 W in Phalaida Bangar, which also led to an FIR. The violator was stealing power from the 33/11 kV substation in Rabupura, Jewar.On Wednesday, illegal electricity usage was found at 17 locations – Green Park Colony, Razzaq Colony, Neelkanth Colony, among others – amounting to a total of 43.60 kW (43,600 W). These thefts were linked to the 33/11 kV substation in Chhajarsi.The power department has filed FIRs under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003, with investigations being coordinated by the anti-power-theft police station in Noida’s Sector 63.Officials said the campaign, initiated by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), aims to enhance revenue collection and minimise line losses in regions identified as high-loss areas.As the UPPCL drive continues, the power department has urged consumers to utilise electricity solely through legal connections.“The public is also encouraged to report any suspected power theft through the ‘Bijli Mitra’ portal, which aims to support the department’s efforts in tackling this critical issue,” said Sanjay Kumar Jain, chief engineer, Noida power department, PVVNL.Regular inspections and raids in high-loss areas will continue as enforcement measures towards curbing electricity theft and ensuring fair energy consumption practices, Jain added.
