Jaipur: Rajasthan govt has recommended a one-year extension in service for Chief Secretary V Srinivas, whose tenure is scheduled to end on Aug 31, with a formal proposal sent to Centre last week. Sources said the move comes in the backdrop of the govt’s bid to ensure stability and continuity within its administrative framework ahead of local body polls and investment initiatives.Srinivas, who assumed the role of chief secretary on Nov 17, 2025, was on central deputation before his appointment in Rajasthan. His potential extension is viewed as a strategic decision amid speculations about his successor, particularly considering the imminent urban local body and panchayat elections.Key reasons cited for extending Srinivas’s tenure include the pressing need for administrative continuity ahead of the elections, the execution of substantial investment proposals worth ₹35 lakh crore from the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit, and his effective collaboration with the Union govt in overseeing centrally sponsored schemes. His reputation for efficient administrative execution has further solidified the state’s reliance on his leadership.Official sources have confirmed that the proposal for his extension has been officially forwarded to Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), which evaluates requests for IAS officer extensions before routing them for approval to union govt.This kind of service extension is not unusual in Rajasthan. In 2023, the previous Congress govt successfully obtained a six-month extension for then Chief Secretary Usha Sharma, even with a different political party holding office at the Centre.
