New Delhi: Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport have arrested two passengers for allegedly attempting to smuggle 7.4 kg of hydroponic weed from Bangkok. After detecting the weed in one passenger’s baggage, customs officials found that the baggage had been handed over to him by another passenger.The passengers arrived at Delhi airport Monday. Officials said during X-ray screening of one passenger’s baggage, officers noticed suspicious images. A detailed examination revealed the hydroponic weed concealed inside the luggage.Customs officials said they had placed this passenger under discreet surveillance immediately after his arrival. During surveillance, officers observed another passenger travelling on the same flight repeatedly interacting with him and allegedly giving instructions near the baggage conveyor belt and later in the vicinity of the X-ray screening area.“During questioning, the first passenger admitted that the baggage in question did not belong to him and had actually been entrusted to him by the other passenger travelling on the same flight,” said an official.The suspected hydroponic weed, along with the concealing material and packaging, has been seized.
