Sonipat: The race for the mayor’s post in the upcoming Sonipat municipal corporation elections picked up pace on Friday as three candidates filed their nominations, with the BJP nominee Rajiv Jain staging a high-voltage show of strength.Jain led a roadshow from Purkhas Adda through key city stretches — Geeta Bhawan, Mama-Bhanja Chowk and Tiranga Chowk — before reaching the mini secretariat to file his nomination papers. A large number of supporters joined the procession. Several senior BJP leaders were also present, underscoring the party’s strong organisational backing.The election authorities said nominations would continue till April 25, scrutiny would take place on April 27, and the last date for withdrawal was April 28. Polling is scheduled for May 10, and counting will be held on May 13.A graduate from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak (1984), Jain said he would prioritise completing pending development works if elected again.
