Ahmedabad: AMC on Tuesday demolished illegal constructions at three locations in Paldi, including an unauthorised RCC room allegedly built by former BJP councillor Girish Arvindbhai Patel behind Jalaram Khaman near Mahalaxmi Crossroads.The room-like structure, built behind Patel’s eatery, had been under AMC scrutiny for nearly two years. Although civic officials had planned demolition action earlier, it was deferred following intervention by senior AMC authorities. The structure was finally pulled down on Tuesday.The construction had also attracted attention because it fell within the restricted buffer zone of a protected heritage monument. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had issued a notice to Patel regarding the violation. Despite the issue remaining unresolved for nearly two years, no action was taken until the latest demolition drive.An AMC official said notices had been served to Patel and others for the illegal RCC structure. Under the provisions of the GPMC Act, the civic body issued three separate notices in 2024. The demolition was initially scheduled for Aug 6, 2024, but was called off after the occupants approached higher authorities and assured AMC that they would remove the structure voluntarily within 10 days.With police protection in place on Tuesday, AMC carried out the demolition. The civic body also removed encroachments in the margin space of Pratiksha Complex near Mahalaxmi Crossroads, including tin sheds and a small room made of tin sheets.
