Gurgaon: A 10-year-old boy died after he fell from the balcony of an apartment on the 12th floor in a residential society in Sohna on Tuesday afternoon.An officer said the matter is being investigated and further legal action would be taken if any negligence or lapse in safety measures is found.The incident took place at Ashiana Anmol Society in the Bhondsi area. Police said the child, Rudra Sharma, was playing with his sibling on the balcony of their house when the accident took place.Preliminary investigation suggests the child lost his balance while playing and fell from the height.“His family, who were inside the apartment at the time, were unaware of the incident until neighbours alerted them,” a police officer said.The child sustained critical injuries in the fall and was rushed to a private hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival by doctors.On receiving information, a team from the Bhondsi police station reached the housing society, inspected the spot and initiated an inquiry. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination. After the autopsy was completed, the body was handed over to the family.The officer added, “The incident appears to be an accidental fall based on the preliminary inquiry. However, we are examining all possible angles before drawing a final conclusion.”As part of the investigation, officers are also scanning CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the society to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the tragedy. PAfter the incident, residents of the society were in shock, with many gathering outside the apartment block after learning of the child’s death. Police urged parents and housing societies to ensure children are supervised while playing in high-rise residential buildings and to maintain adequate safety measures around balconies and open spaces to prevent such accidents.
