New Delhi: Given that nearly half the city’s waste was not yet being segregated at source and about 50 per cent of the waste generated daily was being disposed of at the dump sites, lieutenant governor TS Sandhu, in a review meeting with the MCD commissioner and senior officials, took stock of the situation and reiterated that fresh waste should be scientifically processed concurrently, so that it does not add to any further accumulation. The gains made through remediation efforts would be undermined if incoming waste were allowed to pile up unchecked, said the LG.MCD is already working to set up five new waste processing plants to address the issue, with a capacity to process 5,900 MT of waste every day.
