Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh govt has approved the implementation of the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for the procurement of processing-grade mangoes, citrus fruits and c-grade apples during 2026, ensuring assured prices and market support to fruit growers. The procurement will be conducted through the Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (HPMC), with Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing and Consumer’s Federation (HIMFED) likely to be associated for apple procurement if required. Under the scheme, processing-grade mango varieties, including seedling, grafted and unripe Achari mangoes, will be purchased at Rs 12 per kg from July 15 to Aug 31. tnnA total of 42 fruit collection centres will be established across the state.Processing-grade kinnow, malta and santra will also be procured at Rs 12 per kg, while galgal will be purchased at Rs 10 per kg from Nov 21 to Feb 15, 2027.The scheme will also cover up to 1.50 lakh metric tonnes of c-grade apples at Rs 12 per kg from Aug 1 to Oct 31. Kinnow, malta and santra would be procured in recyclable plastic crates of 15 kg capacity, while galgal would be procured in 40 kg gunny bags. Apples would be procured in 35 kg gunny bags. However, wherever available, preference would be given to recyclable plastic crates of 16 kg capacity for handling and transportation. Only apples having a diameter of more than 51 mm and meeting the prescribed quality standards will be accepted. Fruits that are rotten, windfallen, bird-damaged, badly diseased, insect-infested, shrivelled or treated with ethephon will not be accepted under the scheme.Only registered farmers meeting quality standards will be eligible.
