Gurgaon: More than 2,000 families in C1 and C2 blocks of Palam Vihar have been struggling with an acute water shortage for the past five days. Residents said the main pipeline is damaged and has multiple leakages, preventing overhead tanks in most houses from filling. Despite repeated complaints to the contractor responsible for maintaining the system and MCG officials, the problem remains unresolved.As a result, many families have been forced to rely on private water tankers to meet their daily needs. The colony was developed over three decades ago, and most of the households do not have the provision of underground water storage facilities. Instead, the colony depends on an elevated water storage tank located in the C2 block, which normally supplies water with sufficient pressure to directly fill household overhead tanks without requiring water pumps.“There is continuous leakage, and the overhead reservoir is unable to fill properly, which has drastically reduced the pressure. We request the authorities to intervene immediately and restore normal water supply,” said Abhishek Sharma, vice president of the residents’ association.“People are facing immense hardship and are now dependent on private water tankers for their daily needs. We have not seen any maintenance, cleaning or upgradation in water supply distribution by MCG in many years,” said Sandeep Lamba, RWA president, Block C2.Meanwhile, MCG officials maintained that the repair is underway and supply will be restored by Sunday evening. “After inspection, we found that the problem is in the pipeline connected to the overhead reservoir and not the valve. Because of the pipeline damage, water pressure has dropped, due to which water is not reaching the overhead tanks of many houses. Repair work is underway and we expect to restore the supply by this evening,” the official said.
