Shillong: IIM Shillong on Monday paid tributes to Bharat Ratna APJ Abdul Kalam on his 11th death anniversary, marking the day the former President delivered his final lecture at the institute on ‘How to Make Our Planet More Liveable’.As a tribute to Kalam’s association with the institute, an 8-foot-tall life-size bronze statue was unveiled by Shishir Kumar Bajoria, chairperson, Board of Governors, IIM Shillong, in the presence of faculty members, officers, staff and students.Recalling Kalam’s final interaction with students at IIM Shillong on July 27, 2015, the institute said he emphasised the collective responsibility of govts, institutions, scientists, industry leaders and citizens, particularly the youth, in building a sustainable future through innovation, environmental consciousness, ethical leadership and responsible action.“Fondly remembered by the IIM Shillong students as Kalam Sir, his interaction with the students of IIM Shillong remains a cherished moment in the institute’s history and a testament to his belief in the transformative power of young minds,” an IIM statement said.The programme concluded with members of the IIM Shillong fraternity offering floral tributes at the statue.“Reaffirming its commitment to Kalam’s vision of nurturing enlightened leaders and building a sustainable future, IIM Shillong continues to advance excellence in management education, research, innovation, sustainability and ethical leadership,” the IIM statement underscored.
