Gurgaon: GMRL has identified around 1,514 square metres of land for constructing entry and exit points at two proposed stations on the second phase of Millennium City Centre-Cyber City corridor.The agency is examining whether the land can be transferred free of cost or acquired under the state’s land purchase policy. The second phase of the metro project will connect Sector 9 to Cyber City.While civil work on the first phase, from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, has already been awarded, with 11% completed so far, the metro agency is planning to float the tender for civil construction of the second phase of the project.According to the land survey carried out by RITES, about 541 square metres of land was identified for the entry and exit structures of the proposed Palam Vihar Extension metro station. The land is owned by a private builder.For the proposed Sector 21 metro station, GMRL requires around 973 square metres of land belonging to Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd for construction of station access points.Officials said the metro stations themselves will be built on the central verge of the road, but additional land is needed on either side to develop passenger entry and exit points, ticketing areas and other station facilities.“We require around 900 square metres of additional land for constructing entry and exit points at the proposed Sector 21 metro station. Since this station will have a planned double-decker structure carrying both the metro viaduct and an elevated road, additional space is needed for station access. Similarly, around 500 square metres is required for Palam Vihar Extension metro station for entry and exit access,” a GMRL official said.The official added that while the stations will come up on the road median, the adjoining land is essential for providing safe and convenient access to commuters.The second phase is part of the 28.5-km metro corridor and is expected to improve connectivity between Old Gurgaon, Sector 5, Palam Vihar, Sector 21 and Cyber City. It will also integrate with the city’s existing Rapid Metro at Cyber City and Delhi Metro networks of the Yellow Line at Millennium City Centre. The proposed RRTS stations at Cyber City and Hero Honda Chowk will also be integrated with the new metro line.Meanwhile, work on the first phase of the project has picked up pace. “Civil work on the first phase has been progressing steadily. Foundation work is currently underway, and nearly 80 piles have already been completed. We are on track to meet the project’s 2028 completion target for phase 1. Similarly, we will soon be inviting bids for the construction of phase 2,” the official said.
